COL (Ret.) Keen is a 30-year veteran with a variety of experience in leadership, Command, health care, veteran’s affairs, the Joint Commission, and Virtual Health. A graduate of the University of NC Chapel Hill 81’ where he earned his foundational Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and went on to graduate from Boston University and Emory University with master’s degrees. He especially enjoyed graduating from the Army War College with his master’s in strategic studies in 2009.

His military career has spanned the globe with duties from Fort Bragg, NC to his final duty station as Chief Nurse Executive of Eisenhower Army Medical Center in 2012 when he retired from the Army. Succeeding his Army retirement, Mr. Keen immediately began clinical duties as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Eisenhower and was subsequently hired as a Chief Nurse Executive for Ambulatory Care at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta GA. He arrived in December of 2012 just in time to successfully organize a highly successful Joint Commission visit in 2013.

  Among many responsibilities, he was the Director for Telemedicine for the Augusta VA and instrumental in the opening of the VISN 7 first Telemedicine clinic in Statesboro, GA.  In the fall of 2015, Mr. Keen was selected to be the Director of the Telemedicine Program for the Regional Health Command Europe. He led a team of Command-supported staff to expand telemedicine in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East for the Military Health System and the Department of State, transitioning to a Virtual Medical Center at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. His ability to align Virtual Health with the Defense Health Agency (DHA) and RHCE was a remarkable feat leading to hiring 23 contractors and a dedicated Operational Virtual Health team with the COVID pandemic raging in Europe.  Mr. Keen retired with his spouse to Hendersonville NC and Miramar Beach Florida in October 2021.
